The Charlevoix Downtown Development Authority (DDA) was organized on April 19, 1982 to act as a downtown development authority under Michigan Public Act 197 of 1975, with the following responsibilities:
• to correct and prevent deterioration in the downtown development district;
• to encourage historic preservation;
• to create and implement development plans, and;
• to promote economic growth.

The Charlevoix DDA has invested over $100 million in the infrastructure of Downtown Charlevoix since its inception over 25 years ago.
The Charlevoix DDA is made up of nine members, eight of whom are appointed by the Mayor. The Mayor serves as the ninth member. Mayor-appointed members serve four year terms. Members may be reappointed at the conclusion of the term. The Mayor serves as long as he or she holds office. Members are not subject to term limits of any kind. DDA members elect a chairperson, vice chairperson and secretary/treasurer. The current Charlevoix DDA membership is as follows:
