All of the interior work on the HMB is complete less a little bit of clean up. The architect has provided a punch list to Hallmark Construction Inc. (HCI) today for the interior of the building. In reviewing the punch list, all of the items are very minor and will not hold up the completion or opening of the building. This shows that all of the contractors involved have performed a very thorough job completing their portions of the work. HCI is already starting to work on the punch list items and should be able to complete them by the end of next week. HCI is currently working with the Charlevoix County Building Department to separate the electrical permits from the two buildings so that the Building Department can issue an occupancy permit for the HMB while the Performance Pavilion (PP) is being completed. All of the railings on the rooftop have been installed and are soon to be painted. The HCI trailer has been removed from the site.
Performance Pavilion (PP)
The interior finishes continue throughout the building. Jeff Kroesing, HCI's superintendent, is now working out of the PP staging area. City staff will have a training session on the operations of the mechanical, heating and cooling systems in this building on Wednesday, July 2. The stage floor has been polished and the control joints have been cut. Overall the stage floor looks very nice. The rooftop of the PP is almost 100% complete except for the addition of some planting soil and finishing the painting of the handrails.
Interactive Water Fountain (IWF)
All of the pumps, filters and nozzles are fully functional and operational. With the exception of some masonry, plumbing and site work, including the donor recognition wall, the Charlevoix Fountain of Youth is complete. General Site Work
Starting from the south and working north, plantings and final grading for the sod should be complete by the end of Saturday, June 28 (South of the PP). Plantings along the promenade continue. By the end of today the irrigation system will be fully functional from south of the PP to Plaza C, where the flagpoles are located. The irrigation contractor is currently working in the area between Plaza C and Plaza B. Manthei Development Corp. (MDC) is now placing and grading the soil between the PP and Plaza C. If time permits today, HCI will pour the concrete that will complete the walkway in Plaza C from Bridge Street to the promenade. HCI has removed all of the extra re-rod etc. to the south of Plaza A. This will allow MDC to install the fill material needed, get the rough grades established and allow the irrigation contractor to continue working north. By the end of Saturday, June 28 the stonemasons will be finished except for one set of steps to veneer and some other minor items. The schedule now is to start the re-work of Clinton Street next Tuesday, July 1. Drivers are asked to avoid driving on E. Clinton Street to help minimize traffic congestion. The wheelchair-accessible walkway to the south of the HMB is about 80% complete. Once there is no need for equipment to use this as an access the remaining portion will be poured.
At approximately 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 1, crews began laying sod at the south end of East Park immediately in front of the East Park Performance Pavilion. Several members of the Charlevoix City Band commemorated the event with an impromptu concert, marking the very first performance in the new venue.
