Charlevoix Main Street is holding a special Grand Relighting Celebration Friday evening to officially unveil the new lights on downtown street trees. The new lights, a partnership of the Charlevoix Main Street, the City of Charlevoix, private donations, and a special gift from a golf outing held by Berkshire Hathaway Home Services of Charlevoix, will again bring light to the downtown and continue the Main Street cause of attracting visitors and residents to the downtown beyond the prime summer season. "These lights are more energy efficient and will be long-lasting," said Main Street Design Committee Chair John Campbell, "we believe this will be a nice improvement to our downtown and will encourage evening activities in our already beautiful downtown." Holiday Lighting of Dexter, Michigan installed the lights. New this year, lights extend up the hills at both the north and south end of downtown along with the side streets to State Street. "The work this fall is the culmination of work that began this spring," said City Manager Mark Heydlauff, "crews removed the old lights this spring, did some tree pruning, and then lights were reinstalled this fall allowing the trees to rest this summer." The Grand Relighting will be Friday evening at 7pm during Apple Fest by the downtown Clock Tower.
